Purpose of the Policy

The West Lincoln Public Library Board wishes to provide a comprehensive, flexible and useful collection, using appropriate materials and formats, to meet our patrons’ informational needs and recreational interests.

The West Lincoln Public Library Board wishes to be accountable for the stewardship of its publicly funded collections.

The West Lincoln Public Library Board wishes to ensure the best customer service by providing an accurate catalogue with clear shelf location indicators.

The West Lincoln Public Library Board wishes to reduce the frequency of unfound materials and thereby improve patrons’ satisfaction and success in locating needed material.

Procedure

The inventory will be assessed yearly on a random sampling basis, by the Supervisor, Library Technical Services, to ensure that actual holdings match the catalogue and to determine lost or stolen items. As the inventory is conducted, the catalogue will be updated.

An inventory of the Library’s entire collection, ensuring that the catalogue accurately reflects the contents and correct shelving of the collection, should be carried out once every year.
