Friends of the Library
West Lincoln Public Library is looking for volunteers to join the 'Friends of the West Lincoln Public Library'.
What does this group do?
The Friends of the Library's goal is to support, fundraise and advocate for the library. This includes fostering an awareness and understanding of the importance of the library's role in the community, as well as increasing the community's understanding of the cultural, recreational and educational benefits derived from the library.
How do these goals translate into action?
The group is primarily responsible for organizing fundraising campaigns and speaking out for library services in the community. The Friends of the West Lincoln Public Library hold three fundraisers throughout the year - the Sweet Heart Book Sale in February, the Sizzling Summer Book Sale in July, and the Big B Sale (books, bulbs, baking, bargains & bbq) in September. In addition, they attend community events in order to promote library services and advocate for a strong public library system in West Lincoln.
Over the past fifteen years the group has donated $10,000 to the Caistorville Library Building Fund; $3,000 to the Wellandport Building Fund and contributed to the purchase of computers and computer software, Summer Reading Program supplies and entertainment, March Break entertainment, and the purchase of furniture and fixtures at all of the branches.
If you are interested in supporting West Lincoln Public Library by becoming involved with the Friends group, please contact Catharine Vaughan at (905) 386-6878.
