1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - All Branches
Ongoing
Attention parents and caregivers: join this growing movement to read every child 1,000 books before kindergarten. Reading 20 books per month to your infant/toddler/child teaches vocabulary, introduces the connection between pictures and words and creates lasting bonds. Register at any branch to begin your journey. We‘ll keep a log of the number of books read and offer incentives along the way.

Human Trafficking Information Session - Smithville Branch
Monday February 3 @ 6:00pm
This interactive presentation focuses on sex trafficking with an emphasis on Ontario and the Niagara region. Topics include where victims are recruited, what factors make victims vulnerable, grooming, manipulation and control strategies used by traffickers, red flags that could indicate victimization, and how to help someone if you suspect they are being targeted or trafficked. In partnership with the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre. Drop-in.
Substance Abuse Information Sesssion - Smithville Branch

Get Baking! teaches teens basic baking skills while making a new, fun and tasty treat each month. In January we’ll be baking pop-tarts and February’s recipe will have teens making rice pudding from Mamie Fennimore’s cookbook, Ovenless Desserts. In March we’ll be baking Danish braid loaf from Bake with Anna Olson by TV chef Anna Olson. Recommended for teens ages 13 to 17. Registration required.

The Art of Zentangle - Smithville Branch

The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. In this introductory class, students will create their own piece of artwork, led by a certified Zentangle teacher. No experience necessary. Registration required.

The craft club is a 2-hour monthly program that teaches a new project each month to showcase the amazing crafting ability of the Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Design Space. January will feature framed paper succulents, and in February we’re etching ceramic mugs. In March we‘ll be making paper flower wreaths. No experience is necessary. Registration required.
Old Book, New Look - Caistorville Branch

A monthly social art program that explores different types of painting mediums. In January we will be using ink wash to paint a bamboo scene. In February we will use oils to paint realistic cherries, and in March we’ll be using acrylics to create stand-out garden stones. Registration required.

Have a passion for food? Join the clique! Using a different cookbook every month we’ll challenge ourselves to make something new. In January we’ll be cooking fried haddock and chips from Basics with Babish by Andrew Rea. In February we’ll be making veggie couscous with spicy pine nuts from Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook, Cravings, and in March we’ll be making brocco-flower soup from The Pioneer Woman Cooks - Super Easy! by Ree Drummond. In January we will read and discuss Sadie by Courtney Summers. February’s book club meeting will discuss Blood: The Stuff of Life by Lawrence Hill, in celebration of Black History Month, and in March we’ll be reading Yellowface by R. F. Kuang. Registration required.

The deadline for orders is January 8, February 12 and March 12, with deliveries being made to Smithville Branch on January 15, February 19 and March 19. Income Tax Clinics - Smithville Branch

Get your taxes done for free through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). People with a modest income and a simple tax situation can get their tax returns done by volunteers for no cost. Registration opens Monday February 10. Clinic dates are TBD.
