WEST LINCOLN PUBLIC LIBRARY IS PROUD RECIPIENT OF CANADA 150 COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM FUNDING FOR WELLANDPORT
With the support of up to $440,000 in funding through Intake Two of Government of Canada's Canada 150 Community Program, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario's (FedDev Ontario)'s Canada 150, West Lincoln Public Library is delighted to announce that we will be making improvements to the Wellandport Library and Community Centre.
This involves making the facility accessible, which includes renovating and expanding the library and adding accessible washrooms and doors. Environmental improvements include installing a new roof, furnace and windows using daylighting principles.
Joan Packham, West Lincoln Public Library Board Chair, states, "I was thrilled to receive the news that our application for the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program was approved. I am delighted that we will receive funding to assist us in making much needed improvements to the Wellandport Public Library and Community Centre."
According to Mayor Joyner, "the Township of West Lincoln is very happy to be a recipient of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program funding, which will allow us to renovate the Wellandport Library and Community Centre. Libraries are places where individuals gather to interact and participate in their community; an expansion to Wellandport Library will make our cultural and community offerings available to a greater number of people in West Lincoln."
"The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program will preserve and improve our community infrastructure, so that Canadians and their families can enjoy moments of culture, sport, recreation and learning for years to come. I am proud to see the community of Smithville benefit from this program," said the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
"I am pleased to see the important funding being awarded to the Wellandport Public Library and Community Centre. These types of facilities are central to our communities and serve as a focal point for public gatherings and events. With funds going to repair the roof and make other necessary upgrades, the library and community centre will be positioned to celebrate the Canada 150 this coming July. On behalf of the Government of Canada and my fellow Niagara M.P.'s- congratulations to the Mayor, Council and Library Board on the awarding of these funds," said Chris Bittle, Member of Parliament for St. Catharines.
West Lincoln Public Library's mission is to ensure equitable access to library services. An improvement to Wellandport Library means an expansion of our collection and programs available to the community of Wellandport.
